Who is a God like thee?
By Evangeline Esaaba Folson
Who is a God like unto thee that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of this Heritage? He retaineth not His anger forever, because he delighted in mercy.
The Good News Translation for Micah 7:18 says; there is no other god like you, O lord; you forgive the Sins of your people who have survived. You do not stay angry forever, but you take pleasure in showing us your constant love.
Other words used to replace “remnant” are:
– Those who have survived
– Your faithful people
-Purged and precious people
– Your people who are left alive
– His special people I picked on the word “remnant” because these people seem to be important to God.
God:
-He pardons or forgives their sins
-He also overlook the things they do that are unacceptable (Overlooks their transgressions)
– He does not keep His anger against them forever because he is merciful
There are other reasons why God is so concerned about the remnant. These are:
-They ensure His people are not completely destroyed. Genesis 8:1, John 21:15-17
-They will ensure the message of salvation is spread. Joshua 24:15, Matthew 28:19-20, Act 1:8
– He will spend eternity with them in heaven Revelation 21:1-5
They ensure His people are not completely destroyed
Genesis 8:1
And God remembered Noah and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters (Issuaged Clessend)
Though God destroyed the whole world and all that was in it, humans, animals, plants and buildings, He made sure the “remnant” Noah and his family and the animals and plants in the ark were safe. Why?
He could build mankind and animals through them. Noah and his family were preserved because he did what was right in the sight of God.
Genesis 6:8 says
But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.
Though we live in a dispensation of grace, God still rewards righteousness. He never forgets those who obey His commands.
Revelations 21:7-8 says
He that overcometh shall inherit all things, and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable and murders and whore mongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire…
There is no God like Him, He never forget His own
Those who are faithful to Him. In John 21:15-17
Jesus directs the Apostle Peter to feed His “sheep” to take care of His own the church. God always makes sure that the faithful are preserved.
They will ensure the message of salvation is spread
Joshua 24:15
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve, whether the gods which your father served that were on the other side of the flood, or the goods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell, but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
The Israelites had started serving other gods in spite of all that God had done for them.
Joshua therefore asked them to declare their stand. He wanted to lenero those who were ready to serve the Lord faithfully and pass their families and generations to come after them.
Acts 1:8
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon thee: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and in Samaria and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
When Jesus was leaving the earth, His disciples were the “remnant” that would spread the gospel He gave them instruction to wait for the baptism of the Holy Spirit which would empower them to spread the word.
God will do anything to ensure that His word is spread to all generations.
He will spend eternity with them in Heaven
Revelation 21:1-5
In the passage above, God states that He will come and dwell with man. Meaning, He will spend eternity with the “remnant”, the faithful people, the purged and precious people, His special people.
It is important to remain faithful to God at all times and obey all His commands.
Meditate on the words of this song:
Who is like you, O Lord you created us in your likeness
Who is like you, O God
Is an honor Lord
To stand and worship you
We lift our hands
To the great I AM
Who was and who is
And is to come
We lift our hands
To the great I Am
Who can compare with you.
Amen.
