The spirit of the Lord is upon you
The spirit of the Lord is upon you
By Evangeline Unity Esaaba Folson
The spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised.
The same scripture, with the same words can be found in Isaiah 60:1 which could be an indication that this scripture was important. Jesus repeated it in one of his teaching sessions in the synagogues.
This scripture confirms that the Lord anoints us to:
- Preach the gospel to the poor
- Heal the brokenhearted#
- Preach deliverance to captives
- Recovering of sight to the blind
- Set at liberty them that are bruised.
Christians are to use the words of God to achieve all the objectives mentioned above or bring freedom and liberty to the opposed.
How can this be done?
By:
- Getting born again
Ephesians 2:8-10
- Studying the word
2 timothy 2:5
Joshua 1:8
- Praying
Ephesians 6:18
Jeremiah 33:3
- Setting an example(good)
1 Timothy 4:12
2 Timothy 4:2
By getting born again
Ephesians 2:8-10
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.
Not works, lest any man should boast
For we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus unto the good works, which God hath before ordained that we shall walk in them.
Verse 10 says we were created by God to do good things. God planned for these good things to be the way that we live our lives.
Salvation qualifies us to do these good works. Doing good works when you are not born again or have not accepted the gift of salvation, yields no benefits when we accept the gift of salvation through faith, God prepares us and equips us to do good works.
This is necessary so that no man will boast of the fact that he/she did these good works through his own strength and abilities but by God’s grace.
By studying the word.
Joshua 1:8
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
It is the truth you study and find in the bible that will help you present the message of salvation, heal the brokenhearted, preach deliverance and liberty to the afflicted.
According to the verse above you gave to read the word of God frequently, memorize it and apply it to your life. Then you will be able to help others
2 Timothy 2:15
Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
The Good news Translation with Apocrypha presents the above verse as:
Do your best to win full approval in God’s sight, as a worker who is not ashamed of His work, one who correctly teaches the message of God’s truth.
God desires that we study the Bible thoroughly, apply it to our lives and use it appropriately when you have to help others. The spirit of God already lives in you as a Christian, he will guide you and teach you how to apply the word appropriately at all times
By praying
Jeremiah 33:3
Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things which thou knowest not.
God has all wisdom and knowledge about everything that happens here on earth. He is the creator, therefore, He knows how everything operates in the human body and in the world’s systems as well. When you call on Him through prayer He would make known to you all you need to know to do His assignment excellently.
Ephesians 6:18
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all Saint.
The verse throws more light on how we should pray:
- We should pray always
- We should make our request in humility(supplication)
- We should continue praying in spite of difficulty or lack of success (perseverance)
- We should pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ
When we pray in the way God requires us to, He increases His anointing on our lives and helps us to fulfill our mission on earth or complete our assignment.
Set a good example for others to follow
1 Timothy 4:12
Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in the word, in conservation, in Charity, in Spirit, in faith in purity.
Like Matthew 5:14 says, we are the light of the world, everybody is looking up to us to give direction on which way to go and what to do.
Therefore, we should set a good example with our loves. For instance, you are to preach deliverance for captives, when you find yourself over burdened with work, problems and assignments, do not throw-up your hands in despair and weep.
Remember, Philippians 4:13, we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. Pray for strength and direction and do your best to overcome your problems and gradually complete your work and assignment. You can use your own testimony to encourage others who find themselves in a similar situation.
2 Timothy 4:2
Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.
Be ready to preach the gospel at all times. It does not matter if you are not given prior notice. You should know the word so well that you can preach a sermon at anytime.
The spirit of the \lord is already upon you as a Christian. Step out in faith and fulfill your mission here on earth.
