YOUR SONS AND DAUGHTERS WILL PROPHESY
YOUR SONS AND DAUGHTERS WILL PROPHESY
By Evangeline Unity Esaaba Folson
Joel 2 : 28
And it shall come to pass afterwards; that I will pour my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men shall see visions.
Acts 2 : 17
And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions and your old men shall dream, dreams.
A prophesy by Joel in the Old Testament is repeated in the new Testament. This is an indication that the message is very important and the children of God need to take note.
A prophesy is a prediction of future events. Why would God want us to know what will happen in future? And why would he choose to let our sons and daughters (young people) prophesy and young men see visions? I will try to answer these questions with the help of the Bible. God might want to tell us more about the future through young men and women because:
- He wants to prepare us for the future.
- Future events would be very important.
- He wants the world to know, He is at work.
- If you are not ready for the move of God you will be left behind.
He wants to prepare us for the future
If you do not prepare for the future, you will mess up your life.
Proverbs 29 : 18
Where there is no vision the people perish; but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
According to the verse above, if you have no idea of what would happen in future you will perish because you will not be able to do what you are expected to do. But the one who knows the law (the word of God-Bible) and keeps it or follows it (obeys it) would be happy. God wants us to know what is ahead of us so that we can prepare for it.
Future events would be very important
The greatest event in the bible is the birth, life and work of Jesus. God knew it was an important event, therefore, it was announced by the prophets of the old Testament, long before it took place. With the many prophesies His own people the Israelites did not accept Him. God does not want this to be repeated with the next great event.
A study of the bible reveals that the next great event is the second coming of Jesus. The prophet Joel announces this event and describes in detail how it would occur. It is important to read the whole of Joel chapter 2 to get the details. I will comment on:
Joel 2:1
Blow ye the trumpet in Zion and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the Lord cometh, for it is nigh at hand.
Jesus Himself talks about it in
John 14:3
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
It is clear from this verse that Jesus said He was going to come again.
In 1 Corinthians 15:50-55, we are given another account of how the second coming of Jesus would be. Revelation 21:1-5 and Revelations 22:10-12 also presents a picture of how the second coming of Jesus would be. The events leading to the second coming of our Lord Jesus has been described in several other passages in the Bible.
It is a very important event and God does not want any of us to miss it.
He wants the world to know He is at work
The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 1:27,29 that:
But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God had chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty.
That no flesh should glory in His presence.
An important part of this end time events have been placed in the hands of the youth. Joel 2:28/Acts 2:17
Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men shall see visions. Why choose the youth? As the verse in 1 Corinthians 1:27,29 teaches us, God chooses the foolish and weak to confound the wise and mighty such that no man will take His glory but everyone would see that He is at work.
Young people are still growing and learning, therefore, if they stand to prophesy or recount visions everyone would know that it is God at work. The youth of today, need to take delight in the work and word of God so they can be part of the end time move.
If you are not ready for the move of God, you will be left behind
Matthew 24:40-41 says:
Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill; one shall be taken, and the other left.
These verses state clearly that if you are not ready when the Lord comes, you will be left behind. No one knows the hour nor the day, Jesus would be coming not even our Lord Jesus knows, it is the prerogative of God the Father alone.
Matthew 24:36
But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no not the angels of heaven; but my Father only.
The Way Forward
Matthew 24:42
Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come
This is what we all have to do whilst we wait for the coming of our Lord Jesus. We must watch and pray whilst we wait. How do we watch? By making sure that we obey the word of the Lord, that is, obey the commandments and instructions of the Lord in the Bible. Lead a life that is pleasing to God. As one man of God put it, “We must live as if Jesus was coming today”. We must also pray for the grace of God to enable us live such that we would not be left behind when Jesus comes.
Young men and women dedicate your lives to God, study the word, live by the word and do the work of the Lord so the prophesy would be fulfilled.
