SHOW US THY GLORY, LORD
SHOW US THY GLORY, LORD
By Evangeline Unity Esaaba Folson
Exodus 33 : 18-19
And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory. And He said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before thee, and; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will show mercy.
The passage is part of a conversation God had with Moses. If you read verse 11 of the same chapter it says “—–and the Lord spake to Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend”.
As part of this conversation Moses asked God to show him His glory. God replies in Exodus 33 : 20-23:
And He said, thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me and live. And the Lord said, behold there is a place by me, and thou shall stand upon a rock: And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth, that I will put thee in a cleft of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by: And I will take away mine hind, thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.
This passage shows that our God is a great God, His power and might cannot be compared to anything on earth. Man cannot bear to see His face and glory. How can God show us His glory? According to scripture, God can show us His glory :
- By performing miracles. John 9:1-4
- By preparing a bright future for His children in heaven. John 14 : 1-3, Revelations 21 :1-4
- By sending Jesus to die as an atonement for all our sins. Now there is no need to make animal sacrifices anymore. Hebrews 10 : 4
By giving justice to the oppressed
1 Samuel 3 : 11-14
And the Lord said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of everyone that heareth it shall tingle. In that day I will perform against Eli all the things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end. For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth: because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not. And therefore, I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli’s house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offerings for ever.
From this the book of Exodus we read that, the sons of Eli had been oppressing the Israelites when they came to offer sacrifices to God. They took the best part of the sacrifice by force. Eli knew this but did nothing to stop them. God therefore punished them. The Israelites went to war with the Philistines and Eli and his two sons were all killed. God said their iniquities shall not be purged with sacrifice nor burnt offerings forever.
Sometimes the unjust and the wicked seem to flourish in spite of their wickedness. There is no need to fret or worry about this because God is a just God and at the appropriate time, He will act. e will act.
Remember Exodus 33:19
—and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.
Once God said what He would do to the house of Eli would make “ears tingle” this implies that it would be extraordinary. No one else but God would do what He did.
By performing miracles
John 9 : 1-3
And as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. And His disciples asked Him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was blind? Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned , nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him (some translations say—that the glorify of God would be revealed)
In life, we are sometimes hit with challenges in marriage, finances, health, academics etc. These challenges are not meant to break or destroy us but to draw us closer to God and also to enable us give testimonies to glorify God when we get our breakthroughs.
By preparing a bright future for His children in heaven
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Fathers house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things have passed away.
These two extracts from the bible show that God is preparing another world for us which would be much better than the one we have today. First of all, God Himself would dwell with man and this in itself would be glorious. We would not experience death, pain or unhappiness anymore.
If you want to be part of this new world you must ensure that you have been saved. Accepted Jesus as your Lord and savior and live a life that is pleasing to Him.
By sending Jesus to die for us
Hebrews 10 : 4
For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.
The blood of Jesus did much more than what the blood of bulls and goats could do. Calvary’s sacrifice not only cleanses us from our sins but also restored the relationship God had with man before Adam disobeyed Him. The blood of Jesus also brought us healing from our infirmities (Isaiah 53 : 5), eternal life (John3:16) and gives us victory. Romans 8:37 says:
Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
Concluding words
I have tried to explain using verses from the word of God, to show how He reveals His glory. The glory of God can be revealed through His ability and nature that allows Him to do extraordinary things for His children, and also show to the whole world that there is none like Him.
Isaiah 60 : 1-2 reads:
Arise shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and His glory shall be seen upon thee.
