LET THERE BE…
LET THERE BE…
By Evangeline Unity Esaaba Folson
Genesis 1:1-3,31
In the beginning God created the heaven and earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light; and there was light.
And God saw everything that He had made, and behold it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
The creation story highlights the greatness of God. In verse 2 of Genesis 1, it says the earth was without form and void.
“Without form” and “Void” are translation of the Hebrew words Tohu and bohu. Tohu and bohu are often paired together in the old testament and portray a place of chaos, formlessness, emptiness, a waste land (google.com). In short there was nothing useful on earth and there was no order. But God through His infinite wisdom and power called into being the things He believed would make the earth a better place.
All He had to say was ” Let there be…” And the things came into being.
There are few lessons we can learn from the creation story: In order to create things or receive from God through faith, you have to:
• Have faith
Hebrews 11:1, Hebrews 11:6
• Declare or confess what you desire
Genesis 1:3, Acts 3:6
• Appreciate what God does
Genesis 1:31, Like 17:16-17
Have faith
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Having faith involves believing without any doubt that what you require or desire is possible to obtain even though everything around you points to the fact that it is impossible. For instance you have an exam and you have not prepared adequately for it because you had to care for your sick mother. Even with the little you have learnt, if you pray and believe without any doubt that God will help you pass, you will pass in Jesus name.
Hebrews 11:6
But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he that cometh to God must believe that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.
It is sometimes difficult to believe that God exist because we can not see Him. However, creation, the wind, sea, mountains, sun, moon etc. are things that prove that God exist. Keep trusting Him.
DECLARE OR CONFESS WHAT YOU DESIRE
ACTS 3:6
Then Peter said, sober and gold have I none; but such as I have I give thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.
In Genesis 1:3, God calls light into being by saying “Let there be light” and there was light. The Apostle Peter declares healing for the cripple by saying “rise up and walk” what do you need or require?
Call it into being by declaring and confessing that thing into being. It might not be immediate like the example given about God almighty and the Apostle Peter. But do not give up. Keep declaring and confessing till you receive your miracle. God is a God of miracles and He does not withhold any good things from those who fear Him.
APPRECIATE WHAT GOD DOES
LUKE 17:16-17
And fell down on his face at his feet, giving Him thanks; and he was a Samaritan.
And Jesus answering said, were not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?
In Genesis 1:31 God studies the things that He created and approves that everything was very good. Just as God approves of the good things He does He desires that we also show our appreciation for all the blessings He bestows on us.
This is confirmed by what Jesus says in Like 17:17, but where are the nine? And that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.
He was expecting all the ten to come back and thank Him.
Thanking God moves Him to bless you more. Always remember to thank God through prayer, praise and worship when He blessed you. You should also give a thanks offering to the church. It does not have to be a lot of money. Give what you can. You could also donate food, clothing and other items to the poor and needy.
…Keep trusting and serving God
