I CAN, GOD BEING MY HELPER
By Evangeline Unity Esaaba Folson
It seems an impossible task to want to change the world by encouraging one another to give our lives to Christ (be saved) and share the love of God (Agape) with our neighbors.
Let’s take a look at these bible verses:
Philippians 4: 13
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Matthew 19: 26
Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible”.
Mark 10: 27
Jesus looked at them and said, “ With man this is impossible, but with God: all things are possible”.
According to Philippians 4, we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. Everything means things that fall in line with the will of God as written in the bible. Do not expect God to help you kill your neighbor if that is what you want to do. The 10 commandments clearly stated in Deuteronomy 5 that,
“Thou shall not kill”.
The bible says in Matthew 28:19-20 that:
Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.
This passage is referred to as the “Great Commission” and it tells us what God expects us to do. If this is God’s will then He will give us the strength, direction, and anointing to do this work.
Yours as the youth of this generation is to take a step of faith to fulfill God’s command.
Sharing the Love of God
What seems to be the most difficult task or impossible task is sharing God’s unconditional love with those who refuse to receive this love or those who do all they can to frustrate the people of God in fulfilling this mission. The verse in Matthew and Mark states clearly that with God nothing is impossible.
The youth of today should start fulfilling this command of God, “Loving our neighbor as ourselves” with their friends at school and in their neighborhood. There is some purity in childhood friendships that allows you to influence positively or negatively those you associate with frequently.
Aim at influencing your friends positively with the word and love of God:
- Show them how to be born again in Christ.
- Show them how to lead a good Christian life
- Teach them how to do their ‘Quiet Time” and pray daily.
- Show them love and care at all times.
- Be ready to help in their time of need.
To be able to do the things listed above, you need to;
- Be saved yourself.
- Do your “Quiet Time” daily.
- Study the word.
- Fast and pray for God’s help to be able to change the world.
Pray for God’s Direction
As you set out to fulfill this mission of changing the world, remember to pray that:
- God orders your steps and leads you to the people who are ready to respond positively to His word. Psalm 119 :133-134: Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me. Deliver me from the oppression of man; so will I keep thy precepts.
- God directs your path. Proverbs 3; 5-6: Trust in the Lord with all thy heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy path.
The Way Forward
The gospel singer William McDowell says, “We can change the world” in one of his songs. It is possible and we can do it with God’s help.
Let us, as the youth of today put all our strength into obeying the “Great Commission” (work on getting as many people as possible saved). As we get people saved, we should also talk to them about the (unconditional love of God), the Agape love.
As each young man or woman does this in his/her community, there would be the multiplier effect and it would spread across the nations. Let us pray for God to “Fill us up and send us out”.
