Humble Yourself
By Evangeline Unity Esaaba Folson
But he giveth more grace
Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
1 peter 5;6
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time.
The word humble can be defined as having a low impression of your importance.
According to the two verses above, “humility” or being humble is important in our relationship with God.
Give God the honor or credit for all you achieved or possess because John 15:5 says without God we can do nothing
1) Without humility you cannot accept the gift of salvation. Because when you give your life to Christ, you are saying.
Lord, I give you complete control over my life. I cannot make it on my own, I need your grace and power to go on.
That could be one reason why you see more women in Church then men.
Women can submit to authority more easily than men. Men are taught in most traditions to be strong. You cannot cry even when you are hurting.
Some African countries have special rites to pass boys from boyhood to manhood.
2) You need humility to be able to obey God’s commands in His word.
– For example, if the word of God says Joel 3:10 let the weak say I am strong and the poor say I am rich
– It is a confession of faith that will bring your strength and riches
– But to those around you may look stupid
– This woman lives on the street but goes round saying I am rich.
– Or Isaiah 53:5… by his stripes I am healed. This man takes 10 tablets of medication a day. And he goes round saying by his stripes I am healed.
3) You need humility in or to be a good ambassador of Christ
– If I knock on peoples doors and gates during the weekend 8 out of 10 send me away with insults
– Yet every Saturday, I go round knocking on people’s doors
– People may not understand that is a command from God and I have to obey
– You need to keep obeying the commands of God with or without results until He decides to lift you up by giving you success.
4) You need humility to be able to wait patiently for the Lord to work on your case
Psalm 27:13-14
I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
Wait on the Lord, be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart wait, I say, on the Lord.
Habakkuk 2:3
For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie; though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry These verses from scripture to confirm that it is good to wit humbly and patiently for the Lord to work on your case.
5)You need humility to be able to love your neighbor as yourself as the Bible says.
John 13:34
A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
The bible explains this loving your neighbor as yourself further by saying in Matthew 18:21-22
Forgive your neighbor seventy times seven times
This is very difficult to do from the human point of view.
Some people will “step on your toes” several times and expect you to forgive them.
But they cannot tolerate even one mistake from you.
You need humility to be able to relate with such people
