Grieve not the Holy Spirit
Grieve not the Holy Spirit
By Evangeline Unity Esaaba folson
4:30 And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
4:31 Let all bitterness and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice.
4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted; forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.
The Holy Spirit seals the process of salvation. Revelation 3:20 says;
Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to Him, and will sup with Him, and he with us.
When you receive the gift of salvation, it means you have opened the door of your heart to Jesus and He comes to live in your heart through the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 4:30 also confirms this.
The holy Spirit is also our comforter.
John 14:16 says;
And I will prayb the Father and Hew shall give you another comforter, that He may abide with you forever.
In addition to this, the Holy Spirit is our teacher.
John 14:26 says;
But the comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in name, He shall teach you all things and bring remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
This implies that the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives as Christians is very important
He:
Seals the process of salvation
Is our comforter
Is our Teacher
Therefore, we have to maintain a good relationship with the Holy Spirit. We do not have to ”grieve” or cause the holy spirit to suffer or get distressed or displeased.
The holy spirit is grieved when:
We use foul and abusive language. This is stated clearly in Ephesians 4:29. It says; Do not use foul or abusive language
We are bitter or harbor bitterness.
Hebrews 12:15 say:
Looking diligently lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many of you be defiled.
Looking diligently lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many of you be defiled.
We get into fit of rage and uncontrolled anger. Rage speaks of a person who is easily angered and who raises his voice.
If you grieve the Holy Spirit and he flees from you, you will be instantly vulnerable to Satan and his attacks. The attacks by Satan are designed to kill you, so you may not survive.
John 10:10 says;
The thief (satan) cometh not but for to steal to kill and to destroy; I am come that they might have life and that they might have it more abundantly.
The best place you want to be is in the loving arms of Jesus surrounded by the comforter of the holy Spirit.
Ephesians 4:32 tells us what to do to maintain the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives:
We are to be kind one to another
We are to be tenderhearted
We are to forgive one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.
Enhancing the functions of the Holy spirit
To enhance the function of the Holy Spirit as our comforter we must:
Learn how He speaks or communicate with us
Romans 8:26 says; likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groaning which cannot be uttered.
Learn to praise and worship God sincerely
John 4:24
God is a Spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in truth.
Learn how to wait on the Lord
Isaiah 40:31
But they that wait on the Lord, shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint.
To enhance the function of the Holy Spirit as teacher we must;
Study the word and obey what it says
Psalm 119:105
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
Trust the Lord for direction
Proverbs 2:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all thy heart and learn not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your path.
Conclusion
Let the spirit of God guide and direct you in all you do.
Do not grieve the Holy Spirit or you will make Him inactive in your life and give room for the evil one to have dominion over you.
