BE A GOOD CHEER
BE A GOOD CHEER
BY Evangeline unity Esaaba Folson
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
Another translation says:
I have said these things to you so that you will have peace in me. In the world you have distress. But be encouraged I have conquered the world
The verse above was Jesus! Words to his disciples before his death and resurrection. He knew what he was going through, the suffering and the pain. Yet, he knew that, if he was able to go through successfully. He would obtain great victory for all mankind.
He knew that the same people he had taught, healed, and fed will betray him as he said, he was warning his disciples ahead of time of the dangers they would face. He had overcome the world or conquered the world.
There was no need for the disciples or all other followers of Christ to be unhappy because God is with us
- Joshua 1:15
John 14:16-18
- God is able
Jeremiah 32:17
Ephesians 3:20
- we have hope of a future in heaven
Revelations 21:1-14
JOSHUA 1:15
There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee, I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee
This is God Almighty speaking, and he says he will be with us. He will not fail or forsake us (leave us) it implies that he will be with us always, no, matter where our school, work, or ministry leads us, therefore, we need not fret or worry. We should not be made unhappy or get anxious with fear.
Rejoice in the Lord always, no matter what you may be going through because the coming of Our Lord Is near. Our dream and hope of living in heaven with God, Jesus, and the heavenly beings will soon come to pass. In heaven, there is joy and rejoicing always.
John 14:16-18
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever. Even the spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him. but ye know him for the dwelleth, with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
The passage above is the words of our Lord Jesus to the disciples and the followers of Jesus. God will confirm his presence with us by sending the holy spirit to live in us. The holy spirit will comfort us and teach us all things. He will keep the joy of the Lord within us even in the midst of trouble and confusions to enable us to rejoice in the Lord always and be of good cheer
Jeremiah 32:27
Behold, I am the Lord of the God of all flesh: Is there anything too hard for me? God is able to do all things because “He is the Lord God of all flesh “ he created the world and all that is within it including human beings. He calls the things that be not as though they were when he speaks:
- All the earth remains silent
- He can move mountains and calm the sea
- Miracles occur, the sick are healed, the demon-possessed are delivered
Ephesians 3:20
Now unto him, that is able to do exceeding abundantly, above all that we ask or thinks according to the power that worketh in us
This implies that there is nothing we can think of or ask for that he cannot do. Even our wildest dreams and expectation can be fulfilled by God.
We should not allow the troubles and cares of this world to steal our joy. Rejoice always because Jesus has overcome the world and he is able to help us overcome the world too.
WE HAVE HOPE OF A BRIGHT FUTURE IN HEAVEN
REVELATIONS 21:1-4
And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as birds adorned for husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain. For the former things are passed away.
The passage above is the Apostle John’s account of what will happen after the second coming of Christ.
God will come to live with mankind, and he shall wipe or put an end to all things in our lives that bring us pain and unhappiness. There will be no more sorrow, crying or death, or death for the former things are passed away.
We will begin a new life of bliss with God in heaven. This thought alone shall put an end to all our fears and anxieties. God is with us and will remain with us until Jesus comes. He will never leave or forsake us and give us cause to rejoice at all times because the holy spirit that lives in us when we become Christians will comfort us always.
Be of good cheer, rejoice in the spite of the challenges you face because the Lord conquered the world and he will help you overcome all your challenges.
