The cursed fig tree!!
Numbers 23:19
God is not man that He should lie nor the son of man that He should repent. Has He said and will He not do? ( paraphrased)

“The cursed fig tree” is a very controversial story in the bible. Why will a loving God curse a poor fig tree?

It seems very harsh but I believe it was done to emphasize a point. God hates a despises hypocrisy. Do not pretend to be what you are not.

The verse above says God cannot lie, whatever He says He will do.

Scripture also says in Matthew 5:37 that

Let your yes be yes and your no be no……

There is no in between. Yes but maybe, or No but maybe. Say what you mean and mean what you say.

Matthew 21:18-20
Now in the morning as He returned into the city, He hungered. And He saw a fig tree in the way, He came to it, and found nothing there on, but leaves only, and He said to it, Let no fruit grow on there henceforward, and presently ( immediately) the fig tree withered away……..

This passage from the new testament is highlighting the danger of “pretense” or trying to be what you are not.

The fig tree had green fresh leaves indicating it should have fruit but it had no fruit. Jesus cursed the tree and immediately or instantly it withered to show His disapproval for pretending to be what you are not.

Just be what God has made you to be
God be with you

1. Trust God and do what is right.
