Watch your tongue
James 3:8
But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison
The tongue is small and seemingly insignificant because it is hidden in the mouth but it can stir up a lot of trouble.
James 3:10 says
Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
It is important to know that words once spoken cannot be taken back. You can call a press conference or write a rejoinder in the news media or social media to retract or explain but the harm would already have been done. Therefore be careful what you say. Watch your tongue!
To prevent yourself from saying things you would regret later:
– When you have to make a speech or speak in any public gathering. Pray first and then write something down you can think over before you speak.
– Never speak even when it’s impromptu without saying a word of prayer and quickly putting something together before you speak.
– If it’s impromptu and you need to think you can ask for a song to be sang if it’s in church to organize your thoughts or you can crack a joke while you pray and quickly put something together.
Dear student, worker and ambassador of Christ before you leave home each morning pray for grace and for the Holy Spirit to give you utterance and direct your speech.
God be with you
Suggestions for success
1. If you have a meeting in school with your teachers or at work with your superiors or in ministry with your team pray and think over whatever contribution you have to make.
2. Your prayer should always be – Speak through me Lord
Prayer
Meditate on the words of this hymn
Master speak, thy servant heareth
Waiting for thy gracious words
Longing for thy voice that cheereth
I am listening to thee Lord
What would thou have me say( what hast thou to say to me ?)
Amen
