Pray in the spirit
1 Corinthians 14:15
What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding
Speaking in tongues or praying in the spirit is one christian activity or function that provokes a lot of controversy. This is because it is easy to fake it.
In movies and songs we find people acting or singing in tongues. Though this sends the Christian community a message it also prompts us to be sincere when we pray in the spirit.
It should be Holy Spirit induced and it should flow automatically without pretense.
1 Corinthians 14:2 says
For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him: howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.
The Apostle Paul therefore said he will pray in the spirit but he will also pray with his understanding as well ( 1 Corinthians 14:15)
We should know when to pray in the spirit and when to pray with our understanding.
Romans 8: 26 says when we do not know what to say because because we are overwhelmed by our emotions, then we pray in the spirit.
As students, workers and ambassadors of Christ let us pray for the Holy Spirit to direct us on when to pray in the spirit and when to pray with our understanding.
God be with you
Suggestions for success
1. Reflect on your activities in the past week. Identify instances where praying in the spirit could have helped you make a better decision e.g. you are researching online to get information for an assignment. The page closes suddenly and you did not put down the reference. Pray in the spirit for direction on what to do
Prayer
Meditate on the words of this song
Spirit of the living God
Fall afresh on me
Spirit of the living God
Fall afresh on me
Break me, melt me, mold me and fill me
Spirit of the living God
Fall afresh on me
Amen
