YOU ARE AN AMBASSADOR OF CHRIST

2 Corinthians 5:20

Now then we are ambassadors of Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.

The message bible translation of this verse says: We are Christ’s representatives; God uses us to persuade men and women to drop their differences and enter into God’s work of making things right between them. We are speaking for Christ Himself now: Become friends with God ; He is already a friend with you.

There are 3 words in the verse above that need explanation or elaboration:

Ambassador
Beseech
Reconcile

Ambassador

The message translation of the word “Ambassador” is “Representative”. Who is an ambassador or a representative? In international relations, an ambassador is some one who represents his / her country in a foreign land. The major function of an ambassador is establish links in terms of trade, finance, industrial relations, cultural relations etc. so as to promote trade and other international relations between the two countries.

I the same way, as Christians we are God’s representatives here on earth. We are to set an example for other believers to follow and glorify God in all we do such that other people will also be attractive into accepting Christ and living to please Him.

Matthew 5:16 says

Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your father in Heaven.

Beseech

Beseech is replaced by the phrase “God uses us to persuade men and women to drop their differences…”

To persuade someone means doing all you can to convince a person to do something. You can share testimonies, dramatize the reality of suffering in hell and the bliss that can be found in heaven. It also include providing the persons needs money, food, clothing, shelter, medication. Let the person realize how important salvation is to God and to man.

The Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 9:22 that I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means, in any and every way save some (by leading them to the faith, in Christ).

Reconcile

Reconcile in the message bible is translated as “enter into God’s work of making things right between them”

God wanted every man to be saved. In 1 Timothy 2:4 the Apostle Paul says who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth….

God loves all dearly that is why He sent Jesus to die to save us (John 3:16) He wants every man to know and accept this truth so that we can be reconciled to Him. This is very important, God is relying on you and me to be good representatives that will draw men to salvation so that we can all be reconciled to Him.

Think about the words in this song:

Do you know why Jesus has not come back?

Its because Hes giving you another chance He sits in Heaven and plead for us all

He says (to God)

Look at the cross

The blood that I shed for the remission of sins for man

I died for them all

Give them another chance

This is the way Jesus pleads for us all.
