By Evangeline Unity Esaaba Folson
And the Lord shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt above only and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the Lord thy God, which I command thee this day to observe and to do them.

Above Only
What does the bible mean by above only? It is explained in
Psalm 75:6-7
For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south.
But God is the judge” he puteth down one, and setteth up another.
Meaning God has the prerogative to lift or promote anyone He chooses to. It is only God who can promote or put anyone above only.
James 1:17
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
According to the verse above and promotion or lifting up with no stressful or painful condition comes only from God.
If you want to stay above
Not be beneath
Genesis 15:1
After these things, the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.
God called Abraham and set Him on a journey with no clear destination or clear vision. He was to trust God to lead Him to where He wanted him to be.
In the verse about, God is assuring Abram that though his call had no clear location or mission now, there was no need to fear because He will ensure that he protects him and blesses him abundantly
(I am your shield and they exceeding great reward). He will not disappoint him neither will he be a failure among his peers (not be beneath)
1 Corinthians 9:24
Know ye not that they which run in a race, run all, but one receiveth the price? So run, that ye may obtain.
The verse above gives us directions on what to do in order not to be beneath.
Put in all your effort in completing all your assignments for God. (So run, that ye may obtain)
Do not do things anyhow. Do all you can to ensure that whatever project you undertake succeeds. And pray that God blesses your efforts so that you will not be beneath.
Hearken unto the commands
Joshua 1:8
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein; for then thou shall make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
Hearkening unto God’s commands involves studying the word of God thoroughly and obeying all it says or applying it to your lie.
- If the bible says pray without ceasing
(1 Thessalonians 5:17)
Then you pray without stopping, morning, afternoon, evening, midnight and at dawn.
When you do this, God blesses you by making you prosper and giving you good success as the verse above says.
John 15:7
If you abide in me, and my word abides in you, ask whatever you will and it shall be done unto you. Abiding in the word requires that you study and meditate on the word such that it becomes part of you or your nature. Therefore as soon as any issue comes up, the first thing that comes to your mind is the word of God concerning that issue.
If you are sick, one of the first verses of scripture that should come to mind is James 5:14
Is any sick among you? Let him call the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, amounting him with oil in the name of the Lord.
Observe and do them
Psalm 119:11
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against you.
The verse above emphasizes on the practical application of God’s word. Do not just study, meditate and memorize it but apply it your life.
John 4:34
Jesus saith unto them, my meant is to do the will of Him that sent me, and to finish His work.
Meaning, your ultimate desire (your meat) should be to finish your assignments as an ambassador of Christ.
When all the recommendations stated above are put into practice, \god will ensure that you the head always and never beneath.
