The Eye of the Lord Run to and Fro
The Eye of the Lord Run to and Fro
By Evangeline Unity Esaaba Folson
For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro through the whole earth, to shew Himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect towards him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have war.
The Good news translation of the verse above says
The Lord keeps close watch over the whole world, to give strength to those whose hearts are layal to Him. You have acted foolishly, and so from now on you will always be at war.
Three phrases from the passage above will be explained. They are
- Run to and fro
- To show Himself strong
- Whose heart is perfect
Run to and Fro
The Good news version of this phrase is “Keeps close watch over” why does God keep close watch over us? He keeps close watch over us because:
- He want to identify and provide our needs. Psalm 23:1, Philippians 4:19
Psalm 23:1 says
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want
A shepherd Keeps close watch over his sheep so they do not get lost or get lost or get harmed. In the same way God keeps close watch over us to prevent us from staying away from the good path or moving away from Him.
Philippian 4:19 says
But my God shall supply all my needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Shepherds provide food for their sheep as well. God also provides our needs, food, water, clothing, shelter, spiritual as well as emotional needs.
- He wants to protect us
Psalm 23:4, Matthew 28:20b
Psalm 23:4
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
In the verse above, the Psalmist point out that because the Lord is with him, he fears no evil, even when he is in danger, he knows the Lord will deliver him.
Matthew 28:20b
…and, lo, I am with you always even unto the end of the world. The words above were spoken by Jesus to His disciples. He assured them, He will be with them always to protect, strengthens and enable them perform the tasks of spreading the gospel.
To show Himself Strong
The Good news bible translates this phrase as “to give strength to” How the does the Lord give strength? He gives strength by:
- Enabling us or proving us with ability
Proverbs 3:5-6
Philippians 4:13
- Calming our fears
Isaiah 41:10
John 16:33
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.
When we put our trust in God according to the passage above, He shows Himself strong on our behalf by directing our paths or affairs and giving us the wisdom strength and all we require to excel.
Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.
This verse says God shows Himself strong by giving us strength or the ability to do all things to His glory.
Isaiah 41:10 says
Fear thou not; for I am with thee, be not be dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee: yea I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
In the verse above, God assures us that, no matter what happens we should not fear or get anxious, worried and troubled. He will show Himself strong on our behalf by strengthening us, helping us and sustaining us through every endeavor or assignment.
John 16:33
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace, In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
Jesus assures again in the verse above that through the world would give us challenge or we will encounter obstacles in life but we should believe that once He has overcome the world we can also do so by His grace.
Whose heart is perfect
The good news version says “whose heart is loyal” or those who are faithful. How does the Lord determine those whose hearts are loyal? He does so by;
- By testing our faith
1 Samuel 15:22
James 2:26
- Finding what we can sacrifice
Esther 4:16
Romans 12:1
1 Samuel 15:22
And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.
In the verse above, the faith of King Saul was tested and he failed. The prophet Samuel asked him to wait till he came before he sacrificed to the Lord.
King Saul was not a priest, therefore technically he did not qualify to make a sacrifice on behalf of the people to the Lord. But when the prophet Samuel delayed in coming and his men put pressure on him, he decided to disobeyed God and make the sacrifice himself to please his men. What will make you disobey God?
James 2:26
For as the body without the Spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. In the verse above the Apostle James was trying to say that anyone whose faith has not been tested, has no faith because faith without works is dead.
God tries or tests our faith. Sometimes to determine those who are loyal to Him. The bible says in Deuteronomy 5:9
Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them, for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God…
What will make you turn to other gods? Can you remain faithful to God always?
Esther 4:16
…fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go unto the king, which is not according to the law, and if I perish, I perish.
Queen Esther was prepared to sacrifice her life to save her people and prove the sovereignty of God. God is looking for loyal people like Queen Esther who will do all it takes to promote the gospel. This does not include willfully disobeying God to promote the Gospel.
Romans 12:1
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
In the verse above, the Apostle Paul is asking us to sacrifice our all, our bodies to serve Him in Spirit and in truth.
Conclusion
The eyes of the Lord are constantly moving to and fro (closely watching us) to protect us and to provide our needs. He is also watching us closely to determine when and to whom He should show Himself strong.
God is faithful and He will never let us down.
