SIGNS AND WONDERS
SIGNS AND WONDERS
BY EVANGELINE UNITY ESAABA FOLSON
MARK 13:22 -23
For false Christians and false Prophets shall rise and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible even the elect. But take ye heed behold I have foretold you all things.
This is a warning from Jesus to all Christians. It is generally believed that signs and wonders like the healing of the sick, making barren wombs fruitful (fruit of the womb), giving people spouses, etc. prove that God is at work.
But Jesus is cautioning us that we should not only look at signs and wonders because the evil one has counterfeit sign and wonders. This is confirmed by the snakes created by Pharaoh’s magicians and sorcerers just like the one God created with Moses’s rod. Exodus 7:11-13
2 Timothy 4:2-5 Says
We should:
Instead of running after signs and wonders which might turn us away from God, we should do all that.
2 Timothy 4:2-5 Says
It has been listed above; these are the things that will keep us close to God, not signs and wonders.
Mark 13:23 Says, we should take heed or pay attention to the words of Jesus because not all signs and wonders are from God
How can we take heed?
By:
- Testing every Spirit
1 John 4:1-2
- Looking out for their fruits
Matthew 7:15-20
- Considering whether the blessing gives you sorrow or happiness with no conditions attached
Proverbs 10:22
TESTING EVERY SPIRIT
1John 4:1-2
Beloved, believe not every Spirits whether they are of God because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every Spirit that confeseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God.
In the two verses above
- First, we are warned that there are false prophets, so we should test every Spirit.
- Secondly, any Spirit that confesses Jesus Christ as Lord who came to us in the flesh is of God.
Anybody who operates with a Spirit that does not accept the superiority of Jesus as God who became man is not of God.
LOOKING OUT FOR THEIR FRUIT
Matthew 7:15-16
Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns or figs of thistles?
The fruits being referred to in the passage are the fruits of the Spirit four in Galatians 5:22-23, these are Love, Joy, peace, longsuffering gentleness, goodness meekness, and temperance or patience.
CONSIDERING THE EFFECT OF THE BLESSING
Proverbs 10:22
The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.
When God blesses you, there are no conditions attached. But normally when you got to a shrine or deity they will grant you, your request but ask for other things as a thanks offering. Some of these demands are hard to fulfill and they bring sorrow and discomfort. Therefore let’s learn to wait patiently for the blessings of the Lord or Signs and wonders only from the most High God.
