The letter killeth but the spirit gives life
Psalm 51:1
Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy loving kindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.

In the verse above, the Psalmist is pleading for mercy because of his transgressions or sins.

In the old testament, when the Israelites broke the law or disobeyed God’s commands they were made to make a sacrifice of bulls or goats for the forgiveness of their sin.

This is a cumbersome and expensive procedure that is why God made a better and once and for all sacrifice for the forgiveness of our sins and cleansing.

2 Corinthians 3:6
Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

The phrase ” the letter killeth but the spirit giveth life” in the verse above means strict observance of the letter of the law is stressful and less important.Its like being in bondage.

The bible says if the Son ( Jesus) shall set you free, you shall be free indeed (John 8:36)
Matthew 11:28-30 says
Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laddened and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you……for my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

The death and resurrection of Christ sets us free from the cumbersome and expensive procedure for forgiveness and cleansing.

The spirit of God gives us life more abundantly.

1.Trust in the Lord at all times.
