Daily Word

The Comforter
Isaiah 40:1-2
Comfort ye, comfort ye my people saith  your God. Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and Cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the Lord’s hand double for all her sins

A comforter is someone who gives reassurance and encouragement in times of trouble

Another translation of the passage above says

Give comfort, give comfort to my people, says your God.
Say kind words to the heart of Jerusalem, crying out to her that her time of trouble is ended, that her punishment is complete; that she has been rewarded by the Lord’s hand twice over for all her sins

In the old testament, the Lord comforted His people by sending words of reassurance and encouragement through His prophets like Samuel, Isaiah, Jeremiah etc

How did God comfort His people? By making them aware that their trouble was over and He was going to give them a double portion of rewards.

A song writer wrote a song to comfort people with the following words:
I am trading my sorrows
I am trading my shame
I am laying them down
For the joy of the Lord

I am pressed but not crushed
Persecuted but not abandoned
Struck down but not destroyed
I am blessed beyond a curse
For His promise will endure.
That His joy is gonna be strength
Though sorrow may last for a night
His joy comes in the morning

Meditate on the words of the song above for comfort

John 14:16
I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you forever

In the new testament, God gave us a personal comforter, the Holy Spirit as the verse above says who will be with us forever
God be with you

How can I apply the word to my life?
1. In times of trouble, seek for comfort from God. Pray, read the word and fast if possible

Prayer
Father in heaven, I love and adore you. Receive all the praise and glory you deserve. Thank you for being my comforter
Amen
