OPEN THOU MINE EYES
OPEN THOU MINE EYES

By Evangeline Unity Esaaba Folson
(AKA AUNTY EVANGELINE)
Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law
This is a plea from the psalmist to the Lord that He opens his eyes to see wondrous things out of His law. In other words the Lord should help understand the message in the Bible so that he can do what he is expected to do as a Christian and child of God. How can God help us to understand the Bible? By sending the Holy Spirit to
Teach you
Psalm 119:133
John 14:26
Fall afresh on you
Joel 2:28
Acts 2:1-2
Help you put on your amour
Isaiah 61:1
Ephesians 6:10
Sending the Holy Spirit to teach you
Psalm 119:133
Order my steps in thy word and let not any iniquity have dominion over me
John 14:26
But the comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatever I have said unto you.
Ordering your steps as Psalm 119:133 says involves monitoring your actions and activities and alerting or cautioning you to change your ways where necessary, that is one of the roles the Holy spirit plays in our lives.
There is a song or hymn that says
“Master speak thy servant heareth”
Meaning, God still speaks to us. This is highlighted in various verses of the hymn quoted above.
Another role the Holy Spirit plays in our lives is to remind our lives is to remind us of verses of scripture when we seem to be going wrong or going off the path God has for us.
Psalm 119:11 says
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee
Meaning, the word has been implanted in your memory therefore it for instance you are thinking of stealing a friends textbook and study for exams because yours is lost it looks like a good thing, you have to pass your exam. But stealing is bad whether it is for a good or bad cause.
Deuteronomy 5:19 says
Thou shall not steal clear and simple. No buts.
Let the Holy Spirit fall afresh on you
Joel 2:28
And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dreams dreams, your young men shall see visions.
Acts 2:1-2
And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
Where the Holy Spirit falls afresh on you or being filled with the Holy Spirit. Gives you wisdom or helps you understand the word of God better. On the day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit filled the Apostles.
The Apostle Peter the coward, who denied Jesus three times for fear of a young maiden stood up badly, with a new understanding of the word of God and preached the message of salvation to thousands of people.
When the Holy Spirit falls on every believer it gives him or her fresh understanding of scripture and a new way of preaching to the understanding of all.
The Holy Spirit will help you put my armour on
Isaiah 61:1
The Spirit of the Lord God us upon; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; He hath sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, the proclaim liberty to captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
Ephesians 6:10-11
Finally, my brethren be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the whiles of the devil.
Isaiah 61:1 gives details on what the Holy Spirit can inspire us to do as ambassadors of Christ. Then Ephesians 6:10-11 gives important information on why the Holy Spirit helps us to put on the whole armour of God. Because we are constantly fighting against the devil and his host of fallen angels. Who are constantly working 24/7 to snatch us from the Kingdom of God.
Therefore we need to put on the full armour of God
Details on the armour of God are given in
Ephesians 6:10 -18
And pray daily for God to help you understand His word and give you grace to obey all His commands.
