Daily Word

Hope maketh not ashamed
Psalm 119:116
Uphold me according unto thy word, that I may live: and let me not be ashamed of my hope.

“To hope for” means to wait in expectation of receiving what you desire or need from someone or God.

Shame is an unpleasant feeling associated with disappointment or guilt.

In the verse above, the Psalmist is asking God to meet his expectation and prevent him from shame.

There is a Methodist canticle that ends with the phrase:
…….Oh Lord in thee have I trusted, let me never be confounded.

This is every believer’s expectation. The Prophet Micah in Micah 7:8 says
Rejoice not over me, Oh my enemy: when I fall, U shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light unto me.

Meaning even if it seems that God has disappointed or failed me, all is not lost, the Lord can still give me victory in His own way.

Romans 5:5
And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

This verse from the new testament also reassures us that putting our hope or expectation in God will definitely be rewarded.

The hymn writer wrote:
God moves in a mysterious way, His wonders to perform
He plants His footsteps in the sea
And rides upon the storm.

When God is working on your request, sometimes it might seem, He has disappointed you but eventually you will realize, He provided you with the best option.
God be with you.

How can I apply the word to my life?
1. Learn to wait patiently for the Lord’s timing and best solution.

Prayer
Dear Lord, help me to wait for your timing and provision, which is always better than mine.
Amen
