Goodness and mercy
Psalm 23:6
Surely, goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Goodness is God giving us what we do not deserve and mercy is God not giving us what we do deserve. In other words God’s kindness and compassion towards His children.
In the verse above, the Psalmist says the Lord’s kindness and compassion will be his portion throughout his life. His part of the bargain is to serve the Lord faithfully all his life ( dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life).
Scripture says in Lamentations 3:22-23 that
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, His mercies never will come to an end. They are new every morning. Great is thy faithfulness.
Meaning, Jehovah provides a fresh allocation of His goodness and mercy each day. We have to learn to tap into it every morning through prayer and reading of His word ( morning devotion)
James 1:17
Every good and perfect gift is from above…the Father of light with whom there is no variation or shadow of doubt.
This verse from the new testament says every good and perfect gift ( anything that brings us joy without adding any sorrow) is from God.
Begin each day with a time of prayer, reading the word and singing praises to God.
God be with you
How can I apply the word to my life?
1. Tap into and rely on the Lord’s goodness and mercy each day.
Prayer
Let this song be your prayer and confession
The Lord’s my shepherd
I shall not want
Daily He supplies all my needs
Though I walk through the valley, He restoreth the my soul
And will let no harm befall me
Goodness and mercy
Shall follow me
All the days of my life
I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever
In the city where there comes no night.
Amen
