Captain of Israel’s hosts
Exodus 13:21
By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day and night

As captain of Israel’s hosts and guide, in the verse above, the Lord guided His people with a pillar of cloud in the day and a pillar of fire in the night.

A captain gives instructions to guide his army and gives them encouragement when they are frustrated by obstacles.

The Lord is our captain and because of that we will know no defeat. Meditate on the words of the hymn below.

There is a hymn that says
Captain of Israel’s hosts and guide
Of all who seek the land above
Beneath thy shadow we abide
The cloud of thy protecting love
Our strength
Thy grace
Our rule
Thy word
Our end the glory of the Lord

Hebrews 12:1-2
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders us and the sin that so entangles us. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfector of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God

This verse from the new testament reminds us that we have people all around us watching what we do to see if glorifies God.

It is therefore important that we study the instructions of our Lord the captain in the bible and do what it says.

1. Seek to please God in all you do by obeying His words and commands.

Father, help me to recognize and accept you as the captain and guide of my life. Help me to glorify you in all I do
