Safety is of the Lord
By Evangeline Unity Esaaba Folson
The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the Lord.
“Safety is of the Lord” what does this mean? It is to trust that our security is in the Lord. To believe that the Lord is able to provide all our needs, to protect us from evil and calamity, and to preserve our love relationship with Him and our salvation forever.
There are two statements in the verse above that need clarification and elaboration.
- The horse is prepared against the day of battle
Psalm 127:2
Psalm 127:1
John 15:5
- But Safety is of the Lord
Ecclesiastes 9:11
Proverbs 10:22
Matthew 7:7-8
The horse is prepared against the day of battle
Psalm 127:1-2
Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that built it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain
It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for He giveth His beloved sleep.
The passage above emphasizes the need for the “God factor” in everything we do. We could spend all day and night toiling and laboring to make a living, to complete a project or protect ourselves from harm, but without asking for God’s help, all our labor will be in vain.
For example, you could work hard all month but you might not receive your salary because your company’s debtors did not pay their debt, or you could invest all your savings and efforts in building a house but a rainstorm could bring everything down. You can install the best security system in your house but you could still be attacked by armed robbers who may not only take your property but harm you as well.
The ‘God factor’ or God’s help and approval is needed in everything you do because the devil is at work 24/7
1Peter 5:8
Be sober, vigilant because your adversary the devil, prowl around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. (Paraphrased)
And Malachi 3:11 says
And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruit of your ground…
The two verses quoted above imply that the devil is an adversary or enemy who is always devising ways of devouring (consuming the fruit of our labor, finances and everything we possess)
Therefore, we need God’s protection and blessings in order to succeed or be successful in all we do.
John 15:5
I am the vine, ye are the branches, He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
There is nothing we can do in this world without God’s approval and blessings.
But Safety is of the Lord
Proverbs 10:22
The blessings of the Lord, it maketh rich, and He added no sorrow with it.
People get rich through legal and illegal means. If you get rich through illegal means you live with the fear of the law catching up on you and having to face the consequences.
According to the verse above if you get rich through legal means like receiving God’s blessings, then you have nothing to worry about. The Lord will keep you safe and vindicate you from all false accusations.
Ecclesiastes 9:11
I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skills, but time and chance happeneth to them all.
This verse implies that winning a race does not depend on your speed and skill. Neither does the strong always win the battle etc.
Why? Because they all face accidents or unexpected situations. An athlete in a race who is very fast can suddenly have a muscle pull and fall out of the race.
In the same way, a soldier can lose a battle because he run out of food supplies and did not have any strength to complete the battle.
Matthew 7:7-8
Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you: For everyone that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that that knocketh shall be opened.
According to the passage above, once you know and believe that your safety depends on God, then you will continue to ask, seek and knock till your needs are met.
Philippian 4: 13
I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.
The Lord is more than able to you with the strength and energy you need. Wisdom and all other physical and spiritual abilities to help you succeed in life and fulfill your ministry as an ambassador of Christ.
