RESTORE UNTO ME THE JOY OF MY SALVATION
RESTORE UNTO ME THE JOY OF MY SALVATION
By Evangeline Unity Esaaba Folson
Restore unto me the joy of my salvation, and uphold me with thy free spirit
The common English Bible translation of the verse above says!
Return the joy of your salvation to me and sustain me with a willing spirit.
The word “restore” is replaced with “return”. And the phrase “sustain me with a free spirit” is replaced with “sustain me with a willing spirit”
In biblical terms, salvation can be defined as deliverance from sin and its consequences.
“Return the joy of my salvation” therefore means.
Give me back the satisfaction from putting my trust in God (Joy) for delivering me from sin and its consequences.
How can God bring back this satisfaction or joy?
- Return memories you can reflect on
Joshua 1:5, John 14:26
- Assure you of His constant presence with you
Joshua 1:9, Matthew 28:20
- Fulfill this promise to you Numbers 23:19
2 Corinthians 1:20
Return Memories You Can Reflect On
Joshua 1:5
There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
In the verse above, God tried to remind Joshua about the time he worked with Moses. He had seen all that God did through Moses and memories of their time together will strength him and bring back the joy of good times they had together. This will help him complete his assignment as Moses’ successor. Moses was a great man of God and Joshua needed special grace to continue the work he had started.
John 14:26
But the comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
According to the verse above the Holy Spirit will help us remember things God did for us in the past to assure us that god is still able to do miracles. He is the same yesterday, today and forever more. No need to stress over current challenges we can overcome in Jesus’ name.
Assure You of His Constant Presence With You
Joshua 1:9
Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with the whatsoever thou goest.
In the verse above, God gives us great assurance that He is with us always no matter where we go or where we are.
Matthew 28:20
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world Amen.
This verse from the New Testament is another assurance of God’s presence with us always even unto the end of the age or world. Once God is with us, the joy of our salvation should be restored because He will protect and rescue us from all our misfortunes.
Fulfill His Promises to you
Numbers 23:19
God is not a man, that He should lie, neither the son of man that He should repent: hath He said, and shall He not do it? Or hath He spoken, and shall He not make it good?
This verse assures us that God always fulfills His promises. He is not a man to lie about keeping His promises. Once He has said it, he will surely do it.
If He says!
a)…….. He is your shield and exceeding great reward (Genesis 15:1), He will protect you and lift up your head
- b) Goodness and mercy shall follow you all the days of your life (Psalm 23:6) Then, you will surely experience His favour and compassion throughout your life
- c) I go and prepare a place for you (John 14:2) Then, He is certainly preparing a place where we will spend eternity.
2 Corinthians 1:20
For all the promises of God in Him are yea, and in Him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.
The verse above could pass for the New Testament equivalent of Numbers 23:19. In theology this is sometimes said to be the parallel verse.
Conclusion
If you can
- Remember and reflect over the good things God has done in your life, and
- Be assured of His presence with you always, and
- That all His promises to you will be fulfilled
Then, there is no need to worry the Lord is able to restore your joy
