PROMOTION COMES FROM THE LORD
PROMOTION COMES FROM THE LORD
By Evangeline Esaaba Folson
Psalm 75:6-7`
For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west nor from the south
But God is the Judge: He putteth down one, and setteth up another.
By nature, humans criticize everything. I sat in a taxi some time ago, a song was playing that said:
…If you are poor people say you are lazy, If you are rich people say you acquired your wealth illegally or through black magic.
Meaning human will criticize everything you do. In actual fact there are some poor people who work very hard but are still poor. For instance, construction workers, they carry heavy mortar and stones all day but how much do they earn? Market woman and hawker they sit or walk in the sun all day, but how much do they earn?
There are people who also acquire their wealth legally. For example Doctor and lawyer they study for a long time (5-10yrs) even after their mates in other courses of study have finished their studies and worked for a long time. When they finish they are paid well and obtain wealth within a short time. People in other shorter courses of study, work long hours (8:00-5pm) do overtime sometimes, combined work and studies to get higher qualification and higher income or have two or more jobs.
The most important factor therefore is, it is God who gives promotion.
Psalm 127:1 Says the builders labor in vain, except the Lord build the house, the Lord keepeth the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
To confirm that God gives favor for promotion there are 3 phases in the passage that need elaboration:
- God is the Judge
- He putteth down one
- He setteth up another
GOD IS THE JUDGE
There are some poor people who are poor because they are lazy. There are also some rich people who are rich because of illegal or occultist practices.
A judge is a public officer who determines who wins or loses a case based on evidence given. “God is the judge ” therefore, God is the one who determines who gets rich or who is poor.
Psalm 11:7 says
God is our righteous judge, He loveth righteousness; His countenance doth behold the upright.
God is fair and just. He has laid down certain principles in the bible for prosperity and good success and once you meet the condition you should prosper.
Joshua 1:8 says
Thus book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may be careful to observe all it says. For then you shall make your way prosperous and you shall have good success.
According to the verse above when you study the word and do what it says you will prosper.
However, there are some instances when God uses His prerogative to determine whether you should be rich or poor although you have fulfilled the conditions.
That is what makes Him God, the sovereign God, the creator of the universe, the all-knowing all powerful, mighty God.
Romans 9:15 says
For He saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.
Isaiah 55:8-9 reads
For my thought are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways saith the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
HE PUTTETH DOWN ONE
A good example of God putting someone down can be found in the book of Genesis 37-Genesis 45, the story of Joseph. God gave him a vision while he was very young that his father, mother and all his older brothers will bow before him (He was the eleventh of Jacob’s twelve sons). But Joseph moved from one tragedy to another. His brothers sold him into slavery; He was falsely accused and put in prison, although he always did what was right.
Eventually, He was able to interpret pharoah’s dream and he was made prime minister of Egypt, one of the greatest nation of the time, second in command after pharaoh, A slave and a foreigner.
Only God can make this possible. God indeed moves in mysterious ways to fulfill His wonders.
He made a promise to Joseph, He fulfills it but Joseph had to go through pain and discomfort.
God always has plans for our welfare as Jeremiah 29:11 says no matter what goes wrong in our lives.
HE SETTETH UP ANOTHER
There are times when you just feel like helping someone who is less fortunate. Not for any evil agenda.
It is God setting that person up for favor from you.
Genesis 6 – Genesis 10
The story of Noah, when God wanted to destroy all He had created because of the wickedness of man, Noah found favor in the sight of God. God destroyed all humans, animals, building etc. but preserved Noah, his family and then some animals as a remnant to recreate the world. God will set you up for favor and promotion. Trust him.
CONCLUSION
Do not be quick to criticize anybody. Promotion or wealth, riches and prosperity comes from almighty God alone. Trust Him at all times and He will make a way for you.
Ponder over the word of this song!
He is the Lord
Is anything too hard for Him
He is the Lord, He has said it and surely He will do
Hold onto your faith, your confession all the days of your life
And you will see the hand of the Lord in your life
Chorus
He can do it
Do it, better for you
Far more than you can think that He will surely do
