Man Proposes but God Disposes.
Man Proposes but God Disposes.
By Evangeline Unity Esaaba Folson
A man’s heart deviseth his way:
But the Lord directs his steps
Man proposes means man puts forward an idea for consideration.
God disposes means God arranges everything into a perfect position or plan/picture
This is summarized in the verse above
Given our limited vision of the future and our limited intelligence and knowledge we cannot plan well for the future. Our best option is to do what Psalm 37; 5 says
Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in them; and He shall bring it to pass
Committing your way to the Lord is important because God is
- All knowing, knows everything about the past, present and future. He knows what is good now because He has foresight and can see far into the future.
- Everywhere at the same time. He is Omnipresent. This character or attribute of God is difficult for us to understand as humans.
- Omnipotent has all power and ability to do whatever you can think of. That is why you have to commit everything you do into God’s hands and trust Him to move on your behalf.
By doing this you are proposing as a man or human and allowing God to dispose.
How can you allow God to plan your life? You must
- Pray about everything
Jeremiah 33; 3
- Thessalonians 5; 17
- Look or search for direction from the word[Bible]
Psalm 119; 105
Hebrews 4; 12
- Believe in the promises of God
Jeremiah 29; 11
2 Corinthians 1; 20
Pray about everything
Jeremiah 33; 3
Call onto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.
This verse is an open invitation to all Christians to call onto the Lord anytime, anywhere and as many times as we need to.
It is another way of saying, tell me [God] about everything you want to do [man proposes] and I will work everything out beautifully to your advantage [God disposes]
1 Thessalonians 5; 17
Pray without ceasing
Meaning, it is important to call on the Lord through praying constantly or frequently. Averse in the Bible [Ephesians 5; 15-17]
Admonishes us to walk circumspectly [carefully] redeeming the times because the days are evil. You can redeem the times by being prayerful.
Look or search for direction from the word [Bible].
Psalm 119; 105
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.
The verse above compares the word of God to “light” throwing light unto our “dark” paths. For instance, you are a young man trying to choose a career
What do you consider?
The bible says
- God has given each of us talents or gifts to use to His glory [The parable of the talents [Matthew 25; 14-30]]
- Choose a career that will enhance your God given gift.
- You are good at convincing people, try salesmanship
Or
- You are good in mathematics try natural science[a person who calculate insurance risks]
Hebrews 4; 12
For the word of God is quick and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thought and in tents of the heart.
The verse above is talking about the power in the word of God. It heals and brings solutions to all situations in our lives.
Believe in the promises of God.
Jeremiah 29; 11
For I know the thoughts that I think towards you; Thoughts of peace and not of evil to give you a future and a hope.
God has good plans for each of us but before we can benefit from these good plans we need to trust or believe from these good plans we need to trust or believe in these promises.
No matter where you are in life now, a good place or a bad place, continue to believe God can turn around the evil into good, He specializes in doing wonderful things.
2 Corinthians 1; 20
For all promises of God in Him are yea, and in Him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.
The verse above means all the many promises of God to His children is at our disposal or available for everybody.
It does not matter how many you claim or how many times you claim any of them it is still available.
For example 1John 1; 9 says
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
The verse does not state how many times we have to confess our sins after which the provision for forgiveness still runs out.
It means, once you realize your sins and repent, you will be forgiven.
God I believe [this is a personal opinion] will not say this guy has asked for forgiveness too many times. His chances have run out He is a hopeless case.
God always forgives and gives us another chance to make things right.
