It is better to obey God
It is better to obey God
By Evangeline Unity Esaaba Folson
28:2 And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God
28:15 But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe to do all His commandments and His statutes which I command you this day; that upon these curse shall come upon thee, and overtake thee.
Isaiah 59:1-2 says
Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither His ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that He will not hear.
The passage above clearly states that sin separates us from God. But some peop0le believe that this truth holds only in the old testament. In the new testament, we are now in a dispensation of grace. The grace of God abounds. Furthermore, Romans 8:35 says who can separate us from the love of Christ ……….
But the same bible says:
“shall we continue to sin that grace may abound?”…………
(romans 6:1-3)
Behold in the Lord, the two verses from Deuteronomy 28 quoted at the beginning clearly indicates that it is better to obey the Lords command and stay away from sin. If you want to enjoy the blessing of the Lord the:
- Obey His commands
Deuteronomy 28:1
- Do not frustrate the grace of God on your life
Romans 6:1-2,14
- Learn to confess your sins and ask for forgiveness
1 John 1:9
Obey His commands
Deuternomy 28:1
And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all His commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth.
These words were spoken to the children of Israel or the Israelites. If they obey all God’s commandments the Lord will set them high above all nations of the earth. Meaning, he will bless them abundantly and cause them to prosper and have good success.
The blessings are listed from (Deuteronomy 28:3-15)
This promise of blessings is also available to all Christians who obey God’s commandments. Choose this day to study the Bible and do all that it says.
If you do not obey God then curses will come upon you and overtake thee. The curses are listed from Deuteronomy 28:16-68. Much longer than the list of blessing. This implies that it is better to obey God.
John 15:7 says
If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will and it shall be done unto you.
Abiding in Gods words means obeying God’s commands. And like the rest of the verse says; if you obey God’s commands you shall have whatever you ask for. This also confirms that it is better to obey God.
Do not frustrate the grace of god on your life
Romans 6:1-2
What shall we say then?
Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? God forbids. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
In the passage above, the Apostle Paul states emphatically that the fact that the grace of God abounds does not mean we should abuse it.
In my opinion this means that do not pre-meditate on how to walk into sin unintentionally and after that you will ask for forgiveness and because the grace of God abounds you will be forgiven.
For example, do not plan to steal a friend’s wallet or purse by drugging that person, and putting him/her to sleep. Then you steal the money and pretend you know nothing about it.
The grace of God abounds but do to abuse it. Obey God’s commands on stealing
Romans 6:14
For sin shall not have dominion over you! For ye are not under the law, but under the grace.
Do not allow sin to have dominion over you or control you. Whenever you feel uncomfortable about doing something, do not do that particular thing. It is the Holy spirit trying to convict or prevent you from falling into sin. (John 16:8) it is always better to obey God.
Learn to confess your sins and ask for forgiveness
1 John 1:9-10
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us from all unrighteousness.
If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.
Some people believe once you accept the gift of salvation you become a new creation (hat is true) old things have passed away and all this have become new (2 Corinthians 5:17) therefore sin is not a part of you anymore. I do not believe the last statement because the Apostle Paul once said O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from the body of death.
Romans 7 :22-24
But the Apostle Paul was a great man of God who was saved.
Let us form the habit of confessing our sins and asking for forgiveness and cleansing.
It is better to obey the Lord. 1 Samuel 15:22-23 says
—————— behold to obey is better than sacrifice and to hearken than the fat of rams.
