I WILL REBUKE THE DEVOURER
I WILL REBUKE THE DEVOURER
By Evangeline Unity Esaaba Folson
Bring ye all the fithes into the store house, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith, the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit, before the time in the field, saith the Lord.
The “devourer” in the bible means someone who eats greedily or voraciously. If God says He will rebuke the devourer, it means He will prevent the evil one from frustrating you by making you spend excessively on medications to heal you without much success like what happened to the woman with the issue of blood in the bible.
It also means, He will prevent the evil one from making you lose your income, destroy your property, destroy your family etc.
However, there are conditions you will have to fulfill before the Lord rebukes the devourer on your behalf. The conditions are stated in Malachi 3:10
- Bringing all the tithe into the storehouse or church of God. (Acts 5:1-2)
- Apart from giving your tithe give as much as you can to promote the gospel. (Mathew 16:25-28, Mathew 22:20 -22)
To help the needy
Luke 6:35-41
Mathew 25:40-45
Bringing all the tithe into the
storehouse or church
Acts 5:1-2
But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, And kept back part of the price, his wife also being prixy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostle’s feet.
This passage highlights the importance of bringing the tithe or offerings into the storehouse (church). All the believers at that time were sharing their possessions (Acts 4:32-37). So like everyone else Ananaias and his wife Sapphira decided to sell their possessions and share with the believers.
But they were dishonest, they kept part of the income from the possession for themselves and brought the rest.
As the Apostle Peter said in Acts 5: 3-4
They should not have been dishonest about it. It belonged to them. Instead of saying that is all the money they received, they could have told them, they kept part for themselves.
Learn to give exactly a tenth of your income or more as tithe. If you cannot give all for a genuine reason, speak the truth and explain why.
Never lie about giving your tithe. It is dangerous (Acts 5:5)
Give to promote the gospel as well
Mathew 16:25-28
For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?……………..
The emphasis is on verse 26. According to this verse if you “gain the whole world” as rich as possible with the status and authority to do whatever you desire but you do not have Jesus or you are not born again, it is useless and imprudent (unwise)
Therefore, as you prosper in life, remember to surrender your life to Jesus (accept the gift of Salvation) and give in cash and kind to promote the gospel. Then when Jesus returns He will reward you as verse 27 says
Mathew 22: 20-22
And He saith unto them, whose image and superscription?
They said unto Him, Caesar’s.
Then saith He unto them, “Renter therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar; and unto God the things that are God’s.
When they heard these words, they marveled, and left him, and went their way.
This passage indicates that everyone is supposed to give what is due to the state (taxes what is Caesar’s) and to God what is God’s our tithes and offerings to promote the work of the church.
To help the needy
Luke 6:35-41
I will like to comment first on verse 38 which says Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give unto your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete with all it shall be measured to you.
Meaning, God will bless you generously as you give generously to the poor and needy in society.
Mathew 25: 40-45
The emphasis is on verse 45
Which says!
Then shall He answer them, saying, verily I say unto you, inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
Giving to the poor and needy is like giving to God. As you help and make life easier for the under privileged and deprived in society God will also open closed doors or cause you to excel in life
