I am a child
I am a child
By Evangeline Unity Esaaba Folson
Then the word of the Lord came upon me, saying
Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee, and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee, a prophet unto the nations.
Then said I, ah, Lord !
Behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child but the Lord said unto me,
Say not, I am a child: for thou shall go to all that I send thee, and whatsoever I command the thou shalt speak.
The prophet Jeremiah’s responds to the call of God is just one of the many excuses people give for not responding to a call to ministry.
The prophet Jeremiah said I am only a child. Probably thinking, how can I prophecy to the learned and wise men.
God said, I know you are a child but you are the one I have called to do the job.
Perhaps, he has forgotten or not been told about God calling the the prophet Samuel when he was also a child ( 1 Samuel 3:1-15)
Other reasons could be
– I am a stammer and a fugitive, that was Moses ( Exodus 3:1-16)
But some people still give excuse concerning health issues.
God already knows your health status before he called you. Perhaps your health issues you see as disadvantage could be the reason he want to use you.
There are other reasons like;
– I am not well educated.
– I do not have money to finance my ministry.
My job is very demanding,I hardly have enough time to rest etc.
Acts 9:1-1-17
Gives an account of how the Apostle Paul was called. God did not even give him the chance to complain.
He said why are you persecuting me? He had been killing Christians all over the place. He had not choice but to accept because he was guilty of the crime he had been accused of.
With God, no excuse is good enough to refuse a call
What must we do then?
Like the Prophet Isaiah we must answer and obey without questions.
Isaiah 6:8-9
Also,I heard the voice of the Lord saying, whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, here am I, send me.
Like the Apostle Paul said, we must obey and respond positively to the call. Acts 9:1-17.
Respond to the ‘Great Commission’ (Matthew 28:19-20)
We have Prophets, Apostles etc and many people with divers spiritual gifts today. But the ‘Great Commission’ is a call to all Christians young and old to preach the gospel and win souls.
You do not have to be a Pastor, Minister, Prophet or Evangelist to win souls. Every Christian qualifies to obey the ‘Great Commission’.
Concluding Remarks
There are two things I will like to clarify.
We are all called to Christians to preach the word and win souls. (Matthew 28:19-20)
We have different gifts God wants us to use to edify the Church.
1Chorinthians 12:8-11
For one is given by the Spirit, the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same spirit. To other faith by the same spirit; to another the gift of healing by the same spirit. To another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits,to another divers kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongue.
But all these worketh that one and the selfsame spirit, dividing to every man as He will.
1Chorinthians 1:27
But God has chosen the foolish things in the world to confound the wise; and God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which is mighty.
God does not make mistakes. He never calls the wrong people.
