His mercy endureth forever
By Evangeline Unity Esaaba Folson
O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good, because His mercy endureth forever.
The New American Standard Bible translates the verse above as
Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; For His loving kindness is everlasting.
The emphasis is on “His mercy endures forever” What does the bible mean by God’s mercy endures forever?
In the American Standard Bible “His mercy endures forever” is replaced with “His loving kindness is everlasting” This implies that God’s Mercy or loving kindness is!
- Unlike that of humans
Isaiah 55:8 – 9
John 3:16
- Everlasting (never fails)
Jeremiah 31:3
1 John 1: 9
- Reliable (You can always count on it)
Psalm 27:13-14
Numbers 23:19
John 14:1
John 16:33
Unlike that of humans
Isaiah 55:8-9
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
The passage above says God’s ways are not our ways or His thoughts like our thoughts. Meaning God’s ways and thoughts are superior to that of humans:
- His love is superior
- His giving or blessings are superior
- His plans for His children (Christians) and all creation are also superior
We cannot as humans beat or compare in any way to what He do as the supreme God (God of all flesh)
John 3:16
For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
No human can out-give God.
No man will sacrifice his prized possession for another freely.
If a man willingly gives away his prized possession then he has been offered or given something that will give him/her excessive power over others.
There is always a condition where human love is concerned but God’s love is unconditional (offered freely)
Reliable / Everlasting
Numbers 23:19
God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man that He should repent: Hath He said, and shall he not do it? Or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
God’s loving kindness is everlasting because as the verse above says!
- He cannot lie
- He will not say, something He cannot or will not do.
Therefore if He says in Jeremiah 31:3 that The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying yea I have loved you with an everlasting love! Therefore with loving kindness have I drawn thee.
He will not go back on His word. You count on His love and help anytime, any day. (it is reliable). At the same time His love never fails (everlasting).
Because His love is reliable
1 John 1 : 9 says
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from unrighteousness.
God will never say, you have sinned too many times, I cannot forgive you anymore. He is always ready and willing to give each of us another chance.
Therefore there is no need to be anxious
John 14:1
Let not your heart be troubled, believe in God and believe also in me
He has cautioned us already in John 16:33 that
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer! I have overcome the world.
The New Living Translation of John 16:33 says
I have told you all this so that united with me you will have peace. Here on earth you will have many trials. But take heart, because. I have overcome the world
Meaning, because I the Lord your God has overcome the world, you can also
overcome the world or overcome all your trials.
Meditate on the words of this song!
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases
His mercies never will come to an end.
They are new every morning
New every morning
Great is thy faithfulness
Oh Lord
Great is thy faithfulness
