For The Things We See Are Temporal
For The Things We See Are Temporal
By Evangeline Unity Esaaba Folson
While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
What does the bible mean by the things we are seen are temporal? It means the things we see like houses, cars, clothes, shoes do not last forever, they all have an expiry date. At one point in time all these things wear out or depreciate (reduce) in value as the accountants say.
After a few decades, a house will develop cracks and if they are not sealed properly the house can come tumbling down.
A bread new car develops faults after a few years. Clothes get torn etc.
However, the things that are not seen like faith, love mercy etc. are of eternal value.
People say, the human kind of love, fades but the God kind of love, Agape does not fade.
1 Corinthians 13:13 says
And now abideth faith, hope and charity, these three is but the greatest of these is charity (love).
It is therefore important that we do not spend all out time and energy acquiring worldly property like houses, cars, clothes etc. What should we do then?
- But treasure in heaven
Ecclesiastes 11:1-2
Matthew 6:19-20
- Build treasure where heart is
- Proverbs 18:10
Matthew 6:21
- Place emphasis on thins of eternal value
Of eternal value
Isaiah 59:1
1 Corinthians 13:8
Ephesians 6:10-18
Build treasure in heaven
Ecclesiastes 11: 1-2
Cast thy bread upon the waters: For thou shall find it after many days. Give a portion to seven, and also to eight, for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.
The Message Bible translation says.
Be generous: invest in acts of charity charity yields high returns.
Do not heard your goods or possession; spread them around. Be a blessing to others.
When you do the things listed above, you find favor with god and men. You build treasure in heaven because you are obeying what the word of God directs you to do.
Matthew 6:19-20
Lay not up for yourselves treasure upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.
This passage is trying to emphasize on the importance of building treasure in heaven.
Worldly treasures do not last, they can easily be destroyed or lost. But heavenly treasures are permanent. They can never be destroyed or lost.
Laying up treasure in heaven includes giving to your local church, non profits and to those in need. It also involves living for God’s glory and the good of others.
Build Treasure where your heart is
Proverbs 18:10
The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
In the world today, there is the need for reliable protection and security. Come and violence is on the increase. But for the Lord’s people, there is no need to fear, because we have the option to run to God for help. He keeps watch over us 24/7. No other sophisticated security system created by human can be as reliable as God;s protection.
Your home and office could have sophisticated cameras etc. but machines break down or could be tempered with.
If you trust in God with all your heart then you can run to Him in the time of trouble, because where your treasure is there your treasure is there also your heart will be.
Matthew 6:21
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
If the Lord is your shepherded and keeper then build your treasure
in heaven.
Place emphasis on things of eternal value
Isaiah 59:1
Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither His ear heavy, that it cannot hear.
Salvation is our passport and ticket to heaven. Without salvation you cannot get to heaven. Like the verse above says “The lord’s hand is not too short that it cannot save.” Meaning, no matter how evil or unworthy you are, the Lord can still save you. Nobody is too evil or too bad to be saved.
Just come to the Lord just as you are and He will accept you, forgive your sins, cleanse you and make you whole.
1 Corinthians 13:8
Charity never failleth; but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail, whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
The verse above means all things shall pass away but “love” is of eternal value. Love, that is Agape love is of eternal value.
Agape love is the self sacrificing unconditional
Love of god.
Ephesians 6:10-18
The passage above lists the various parts of our spiritual armour and what we are to use them for.
- The belt of truth to hold our armour together and allow us to fight appropriately
- The helmet of salvation that protects our head and brain etc.
All the various parts of the spiritual armour like those listed above are of eternal value. We need them to survive.
The most important one to me is found in Ephesians 6:18 praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and working there unto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.
It is very important to activate all the other parts of the armour.
Lets learn to pray without ceasing.
The songwriter said Lo I tell you a mystery
When Jesus shall come
We shall not be the same
We all shall be changed
In a moment
At the last trumpet….
Then we all shall sing
Death where is your
Victory
O grave where is
Thy sting?
