AGENDA 2020
AGENDA 2020
By Evangeline Unity Esaaba Folson
We have come to the end of another year and a new year would be ushered in soon. There is an old adage that says, ”If you do not plan your life, then you are planning to fail.”
Like most people do at the beginning of each year, New Year’s resolutions are made to help make the year fruitful.
Hosea 4: 6 says:
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge because thou has rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee…..
Proverbs 29: 18 also says:
Where there is no vision, the people perish, but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
Most of the time, when a verse is repeated in the bible, it means that instruction or message is very important. If you have no plan or vision for your life, the bible says you will be destroyed or you will perish. It is, therefore, very important for the young people of today to plan their lives based on the commandments in the bible. Making New Year resolutions is very important.
As you make your resolutions add these three things:
Aim at being a good ambassador for Christ. (2 Corinthians 5: 20, Ephesians 6:20, 2 Corinthians 5: 11 and 2 Timothy 2: 15)
Pray into your future, your job, marriage, and children. (Matthew 16: 19, Matthew 18: 18)
Pray that you set a good example with your life for others to follow (Matthew 5: 16, Philippians 2: 15 and 1 Timothy 4: 12)
Aim at being a good ambassador for Christ
2 Corinthians 5: 20
Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God
Ephesians 6: 20
For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly: as I ought to speak.
2 Corinthians 5: 11
Knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord, we persuade men: but we are made manifest unto God, and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.
2 Timothy 2: 15
Study to show thyself approved unto God; a workman that needeth not to be ashamed; rightly dividing the word of truth.
These four verses show us why we should be ambassadors for Christ and directs us on how to do the work of an ambassador. We are ambassadors for Christ as Christians and young people because we need to be reconciled to God. We must work for God at all costs, even, if we are persecuted or put in chains like the Apostle Paul and the other disciples of Christ.
We must study the word well so that we can use it to persuade men to surrender their lives to Jesus and be born again. In 2020, pray and ask for God’s help to be a good witness or ambassador for Christ. Use every opportunity that comes up to witness for God. In school, at your workplace, and in your neighborhood. As you engage in conversations with your friends on social media and at events, put in a word or two to convince your peers to come to Jesus. Pray into your future, your job, marriage, and children
Matthew 18:18
Verily, I say unto you, whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Matthew 16:19
And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatsoever thou shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
A statement made by Jesus is repeated in the same book of Matthew. This is something Jesus definitely wants us to take note of.
When I was in school, I remember, the Scripture Union (SU) Travelling Secretary for the eastern region of Ghana, Mr. Kweku Hutchful (of blessed memory) who used to come to my school, Aburi Girls Secondary School, spoke to us on praying into our future. He said this was very important.
As a teenager or young adult, you can start praying for the kind of man or woman you want to marry. You can pray for a blissful marriage full of God’s blessing and you can pray for children who will honor their parents as the bible commands. You can also ask God to prepare and show you what job, He would like you to do.
When you pray you can bind all the devil’s plans to destroy your future and ask God to pour his blessings on your life and just as the two verses in Matthew states whatever you bind in these areas of your life, job, marriage, and children would be bound. And whatever you pray into your life will be loosed.
In 2020 set apart some time, once a month, once a quarter or whatever time might be favorable for you and fast and pray into your future.
Pray that you set a good example with your life for others to follow
Matthew 5: 16
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Philippians 2:15
That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of crooked and perverse nations, among whom ye shine as lights in the world.
1 Timothy 4: 12
Let no man despise your youth; but be thou an example of the believers in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
As we enter 2010, take a decision to let your light shine or live a blameless life. Then aim also at setting a good example in everything you do. When you take this decision to pray every day for the spirit of God to empower you to enable you do all you have set your mind to do in 2020.
Young people should be extra careful with sins that defile their bodies like adultery, fornication, taking drugs and alcohol, homosexuality and engaging in occultic rituals and worship.
The bible says our bodies are the temple of God so we should be careful what we do with our bodies.
1 Corinthians 6: 19-20
What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price; therefore glorify Gods in your body, and in your spirit which are God’s.
Conclusion
Let this song be your prayer each day in 2020:
Let the beauty of Jesus be seen in me,
All His wondrous compassion and purity,
Oh thou Spirit Divine, All my nature refine,
Till the beauty of Jesus be seen in me.
