Blessed are the meek
By Evangeline Unity Esaaba Folson
But the meet shall inherit
The earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace
Matthew 5:5
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
The two verses quoted above are two almost identical verses
– One in the old testament
– And one in the new testament
Whenever, there are two verses of this nature it implies that God wants to
– Stress on the importance of the message
– Or land encourage Christians to obey or comply.
– The oxford English dictionary defines meek as
– Quiet, gentle, and easily imposed on
– Submissive
But unfortunately worldly standards and principles have nor respect for such people
– They are cheated
– Abused
– And given no respect
But our Heavenly Father has a lot of respect and value for such people
“Blessed” in biblical terms is to be endowed with divine favour and protection
Or to be highly favored by God.
Apart from the meek being highly favored by God, what are the other benefits of being meek?
– You shall eat the good of the land (Have good success)
Isaiah 1:19
Matthew 5:5
You shall be the head and not the tail (You shall prosper)
Deuteronomy 28:13
James 1:17
– You will reap your reward
Psalm 27:13-14
You shall eat the good of the Lord
Isaiah 1:19
If ye be willing and obedient ye shall eat the good of the Land
It is only he meek, those who are submissive that.
Can be willing and obedient.
It is not always easy to obey willing. Sometimes what you have to do will cause you discomfort and be inconvenient.
Consider, Mass’ fair of going back to Egypt when he knew he was a wanted man. He had killed an Egyptian who was maltreating an Israelite (Exodus 2:11-12)
He had been brought up with all the comforts and benefits of being an Egyptian Prince when he was an Israelite. The Egyptian were likely ungratefulness.
Matthew 5:5
Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth. Meaning, the earth and all its blessings will be inherited by those society see as being submissive, gentle and easy to work with.
You shall be the head and not the tail
Deuteronomy 25:14
And the Lord shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou halt not be beneath; if thou hearken unto the commandments of the Lord thy God…
It is not an easy task to obey all God’s commandments as the verse above directs us to do.
How do you love as Leviticus 19:18 states when that neighbor refuses to be loved never appreciates what you do And only sees your shortfalls or imperfections.
It is only someone who is meek or submissive that will swallow his/her pride and continue to show love.
James 1:17
Every good gift and every perfect gift is form above, and cometh down from the father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
The meek receive every good and perfect gift from God. God rewards those who continue to be obedient even though they see no immediate advante. Like Jesus the Disciple.
Blessed are they we believe even though they have not seen
John 20:28-29)
You will reap your reward
Psalm 27:13-14
I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living wait on the Lord be of good courage and he shall strengthen thine heart wait, I say on the Lord.
Waiting patiently for the move of the Lord in your life even in pain and discomfort.
Is better than rushing to take what looks good now and later turns out to be inappropriate.
That is the lesson that can be learnt from the story of Abraham and Lot after traveling together for a while, they had to part, Abraham the older man asked Lot to choose which direction he would want to take
Genesis 14:10
And let lifted up his eyes and behold all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where …
Lot chose the well – watered land, Sodom and Gomorrah, which was later destroyed.
It is only God who knows the future, so it is better to wait for His direction
Galatians 6:9
And let us not be weary in well-doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not .
Wait for the timing and move of God in every situated.
