Learn to obey the Lord

1 Samuel 15:22

And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold to obey is better than to sacrifice and to hearken to than the fat of rams.

The verse above is part of an account of how God instructs the Israelites to completely destroy the Amalekites. Kill the people , cattle, jewellery and everything they possess.

King Saul leads his men in battle and they win, but, looking at the cattle and other goodies , he believed they could be used as sacrifice to God. He disobeyed God.

The result of his actions? God rejected him as king and sent the Prophet Samuel to annoint another king, David.

What lesson can we learn from this? We must always obey God:

– Even if we think we have a better plan. Remember His ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts ( Isaiah 55:8-9)

-There are serious consequences when we disobey God’s words and commands. (Romans 6:23, sin is disobedience to God. You will not die physically ,when you sin but spiritually)

-Obeying God’s words and command is the only way to find happiness and fulfillment (Hebrews 11:6)

You are being shunned by your friends at school because you do not join in their mischievous deeds as you are a christian. Do you join them or keep to your christian principles? Keep doing good and in due time God will reward you. (Galatians 6:9)

You may have challenging situations at work and in your ministry as a christian. Remember to be faithful unto the end and you will receive the crown of life. (Revelations 2:10)

When we walk with the Lord

In the light of His word

What a glory He sheds on our way

While we do His goodwill

And with all who will trust and obey?

Trust and obey

For there is no other way

To be happy in Jesus

But to trust and obey

Prayer

Father, help me to trust and obey you at all times.
